BOONE MORRISON, ARCHITECT
Profile:
A 1963 graduate of Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, the principle Architect of Boone Morrison Architects, Inc. brings a wide range of experiences, skills and interests to the profession.
Mr. Morrison's 25 years of experience includes architectural internship with various Hawai'i firms, most recently with the Maui Architectural Group, under James Niess. He was named an Associate of firm in 1981 and was in charge of their Hawaii Island office until the establishment of his own firm in 1986.
In the course of his practice to date Mr. Morrison has worked on a wide variety of projects, including museum interiors and displays, team design of large resort development and visitor attractions, conceptual development and programming for community-wide projects, prepared legislative documents, as well as the usual range of residential and commercial commissions.
An accomplished craftsman, Mr, Morrison has worked in the building trades since High School, achieving Journeyman level skills as a carpenter. Continually involved in the process of construction, Mr. Morrison brings a familiarity with the actual methods and materials too often lacking in contemporary architectural approaches.
In addition to his award winning work in architecture, Mr. Morrison is a noted arts entrepreneur, having been a co-owner of the Foundry Gallery and Workshops in Honolulu (1969-71) and the founding Director of the Volcano Art Center at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (1974 to present). His creative work includes still-photography, for which he has been named a Master Artist of Hawaii by the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, with works in major public, institutional and private collections World-wide. Mr. Morrison's work also includes documentary films, with several award winning productions to his credit, including Song of South Kona (1986) which has been awarded two gold medals in international film festivals since it's debut.
Mr. Morrison is listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Art and in the Internationl Dictionary of Biography.
